The Story

Hi,
My name is Espoir. I am the dancer behind T'âme T'âme | Free to dance and live in Brussels, Belgium.

At the start of 2023, someone I loved died. This event was a storm in my Life. It felt like an emotional storm. It felt like everything was falling apart inside me!

Somehow, I found myself dancing. Dancing has helped me navigate the pain, anger, sadness, anxiety and other emotions that I couldn't put into words. But dancing has also made me feel a lot of joy and happiness, even though I am not sure I can describe it in words yet. And I'm very thankful for that!

I love dancing, so it felt natural to try to share with people I meet on the dance floor. The reactions I often get are: "I can't dance", "I don't have the rhythm"  or even "I'm not drunk enough for that". These kinds of reactions made me realise that I sometimes feel alone when I need to share my passion about dance. This made me wonder: "Is there at least one person on the dancefloor who would like to dance but doesn't do so? "And if that's true, why is that?".

T'âme T'âme | Free to dance project was born!

T'âme T'âme is a combination of two French words: 'TamTam', which is a French word used to describe the sound of a percussion music instrument, and 'âme', which is French for 'soul'. It could be translated as "the rhythm(s) of a soul". The English name for this is Free to Dance.

The aim of this project is to create and facilitate spaces where people can allow themselves to dance.
